Chrome.exe Corrupt File Error -- An Easy Way to Fix it!

Symptoms of this problem
Most common errors associated with this file usually popup while opening or using Google Chrome, sometimes when trying to download something via this Internet browser.

A common error message usually indicates the following:
The file or directory C:\Documents and Settings\(user)\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Local State is corrupt and unreadable.

Step-by-step repair guide:

The source of the problem is usually with the User Data folder of Chrome.

(1) Rename Chrome’s User Data folder
1. Close the Chrome application
2. Right click the shortcut icon of Chrome
3. Select Properties
4. Copy the Target: path, it should be something like:

C:\Users\(user name)\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe

This is the path that triggers Chrome.

We need the path to \Chrome\ folder, which is where the User Data folder is located, it should be something like: C:\Users\(user name)\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome

5. Click Start menu, then select Run
6. In the command prompt paste the path to the Chrome folder and click ENTER

Chrome folder should now be opened together with User Data folder

7. Rename User Data folder to User Data_backup

Now open Chrome application– problem should be solved!

If problem isn’t solved…

(2) Disable/remove Panda anti-virus
If you’re using Panda anti-virus, there might be an interaction problem between the two programs. Try first to disable it and see if this is the cause to the problem. If that was the problem, remove Panda anti-virus and use Microsoft Security Essentials– Excellent free and reliable antivirus.

If this isn’t the case…

(3) Scan for Crome.exe related errors
