Exe file
Exe stands for Executable, and by Exe files we relate to files with the extension of .exe. To make it simple – once double clicked or ‘executed’, this file performs (executes) tasks according to its encoded embedded instructions. (Unlike data files such as .doc files that need to be parsed by a ‘parent’ program such as MS WORD).

Exe files are in most cases used to run or install programs. These file types are common in various operating systems such as: DOS, Microsoft Windows, OS/2 and other. Unlike data file formats (.doc or .txt) .exe files cannot be read by humans.

Who creates exe files?
They are created by software developers via what is known as a software compiler which eventually ‘packs’ the given code into a self-contained file called.exe. Once in that form, a user can simply double click (in Windows OS) on such file in order to execute it and use it for the purpose that it was created for.

Benefits and Risks
In most cases exe files are beneficial – they run popular programs such as MS Outlook, Windows Media Player, MS Word, etc. Without them we wouldn’t be able to run and benefit from these programs.

On the other hand and unfortunately, some people create exe files in order to spread dangerous malware and spyware over the Internet. Malicious exe files can seriously compromise your operating system, your private data and files.

So whenever you receive an .exe file, whether that be via Email, Internet browsing, Skype, Messenger, or a CD and so on, always verify whether the origin of that .exe file is safe. If you’re not sure about the origin of the file, NEVER try opening it, and if you’re insisting doing that, it is highly recommended to have a reliable and professional anti-virus installed on your computer such as MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) - Microsoft’s free anti-virus software.

Handling exe errors!
As I’ve explained earlier, malicious exe files may harm your Windows system in many ways. Although having a professional anti-virus may protect your Windows from most malicious exe files and remove them in case they were already executed, they can’t repair the damages that those malicious exe files left in your registry system. Such damages cause various errors and the most effective way to repair them is via a reliable Windows errors repair tool.
