irql_not_less_or_equal Blue Screen

I received a few calls lately from several PC users who complained about this Windows irql_not_less_or_equal blue screen (BSOD) error. First of all, I want you to know that the source of this error is quite obvious and in this quick guide I’ll show you how you can fix it quite easily.

Problem description:
This problem usually occurs in Windows XP, Windows 7, Vista and sometimes in Windows 2003/server on startup or shutdown. However, it wouldn’t necessarily happen all the time, but might happen randomly. Most of the time it crashes your PC together with the notorious blue screen of death.

In order to make a long story short, this Windows irql_not_less_or_equal error (sometimes includes - stop 0x0000000a, 0x00000000, 0x000000FF, 0x806E4EA0) occurs due to a kernel-mode process or a particular driver that tries unsuccessfully to access one of your PC’s memory locations.

Typically, this means that one of your system/software/hardware drivers is either corrupted/outdated/incompatible – it might be your soundcard driver, video card driver, a motherboard driver or any other driver…

The biggest question is which driver?

Detecting and replacing the problematic driver(s)
While a typical Windows system contains dozens of system, software and device drivers, it becomes almost impossible to try and identify all those drivers, and then figure out which one is the problematic one.

The best way to handle this situation is to install the following drivers replacement and repair tool – it’ll scan your entire PC, automatically detect all your damaged/incompatible drivers, and then replace them with the correct drivers.

After detecting and repairing the problematic driver (or drivers) that causes this Windows irql_not_less_or_equal error, I recommend you to restart your PC and you’ll most probably never have to see that error again. B.T.W it is recommended to set that tool to automatically refresh all your drivers once in a while as this can prevent future errors.

What to do if this error occurs immediately after Windows startup?
In that case you need to install the drivers replacement and repair tool while Windows is uploaded in ‘Safe Mode’.

(1) Download and install the drivers repair tool on another computer
(2) Get a legitimate license key
(3) Save the tool’s installation program in a USB memory stick
(4) Restart the problematic computer and hold the F8 key
(5) Upload Windows via ‘Safe Mode’
(6) Install the Drivers repair tool via the USB memory stick
(7) Use the license key to register the installation
(8) Conduct a comprehensive drivers diagnostic and replace all problematic drivers

Once successfully completed, restart your PC in ‘normal mode’ and the irql_not_less_or_equal crash should be fixed.

Watch this quick video repair guide.

Drivers replacement and repair tool

Take in mind that in some cases this problem might popup due to a hardware failure. Anyway, begin with the ‘software side of the story’ – with what I provided you here you’ll be able to know whether there’s a software (driver) related problem that causes this error to show up.

Warning – I highly recommend you NOT to try and download drivers from unknown/random sites and then manually replace them as they might be outdated/incorrect/infected with viruses.

Sounds to me like a hard drive hardware problem. Have you tried booting in Safe Mode? If that doesn't work then it is most probably a hardware problem.
